Sir,
I have the honour to ack: the receipt
of your despatch No 94 of the 18th of March
last and to inform you that I approve the
appointment of an additional Health Officer
for the Port of Hongkong. I will endeavour
to select an officer for this post as soon
as possible. The salary of the appointment
shall be at the rate of £480 a year rising
by triennial increments of £40 to £720 a year,
without allowances of any kind and without the privilege of private practice, these
being the terms which have now been fixed
for Hd Assistant Surgeons, and on which
Dr W.J.E. Davies has already been appointed,
as you were informed by my despatch No 91 of
the 27th of March last.
I take this opportunity of addressing
you on the subject of the rate of salary to
